Cyril Despres

After a break of three years I am really looking forward to returning to what has become the biggest extreme enduro in the world, the Erzberg Rodeo. It is the place where I first came to KTM’s attention and that always gives me extra motivation, but with all the will in the world, it is highly unlikely I will be adding a third victory to my tally! I would like to say that it is a week’s recent illness that has pushed me out of contention, but with at least 15 very talented ex-trials rider in with a chance, and my friend Taddy Blazusiak looking for a fourth win in a row, I will be more than happy to get into the Top 5! Have a good weekend.

All the best

“I will be going along with my teammate Ruben Faria, and my Polish friend Taddy Blazusiack. Saturday morning I will be in the ‘Dakar Village’ in front of the Victoria Sofitel and then in the afternoon I will ride a KTM SMC 690 in the super moto show, before taking part in the Dakar Parade aboard my KTM 450 Rally. It should be a really good fun weekend.”

Sardegna Rally Race – Stage 5

Despite winning today’s first special, and beating Marc Coma on both, Cyril Despres nevertheless finished the 2011 Sardegna Rally Race second overall 4 minutes 15 seconds behind the Spaniard. Cyril’s team mate Ruben Faria won today’s second special to finish 8th overall at 37’05.65.

“Well obviously I’m not thrilled to finish second – I always start a race to win. That said I am not too dissatisfied with my performance. I haven’t competed since the Dakar back in January so I maybe wasn’t quite as ‘ready to race’ as my nearest rivals. And once again, it was very close between Marc and myself, with difference amounting to less than a minute a day. Plus it is difficult to be disappointed when you race such excellent tracks in such a beautiful place. As always Antonello and the whole Bike Village team did a really excellent job and you’d be hard pushed to find anybody, amateur or professional, who wasn’t delighted by the week they have spent here. I will most definitely be back next year.”
